Recy Taylor

Recy Taylor, a 24-year-old black mother and sharecropper, was gang raped by six white boys in 1944 Alabama. This film exposes a legacy of physical abuse of black women and reveals Rosa Park's intimate role in Recy Taylor's story. The event will include a post screening dialogue facilitated by Essence McDowell from UIC's Social Justice Initiative and Scheherazade Tillet, co-founder of A Long Walk Home.

This Program is part of the Women’s Leadership and Resource Center’s Feminist Films, which center women and femmes, people of color, LGBTQIA+ community, those with disabilities, indigenous people and other marginalized perspectives. Each screening is accompanied by a workshop, discussion, or art-making session.
