Program Series

The Black Cultural Center plans, leads and participates in programming thru out the year. Unless otherwise specified, all events are open to the public.  Most of that programming fits into the following categories:

Art Moves Heading link

Art moves culture and these events are connected to the “arts”. Including the art exhibits in our gallery space, open mic nights, and more.

Black History Month Heading link

Each February, we sponsor and collaborate on various programs in celebration of Black History Month!

Black Table Talk Heading link

Thought provoking topics related to today’s climate reflecting political, economic, and social justice events are discussed through engaging activities.

Carver Roots of Justice Heading link

A series of programs that examine the importance of environmental stewardship for local and global Black communities. These discussions and workshops are focused on the meaning of environmental, economic and social sustainability and see how we, along with local activists, can promote environmental justice for our communities at UIC and throughout the city of Chicago.

Late Nights at the BCC Heading link

Our “after hours” programming consists of study nights, game nights, creative workshops and more! These are primarily led by our Student Interns.

Black Wellness Heading link

Wellness consists of eight dimensions: physical, emotional, social, intellectual, environmental, spiritual, vocational, and financial. This programming is intended to support the overall well-being of the UIC community in various ways.

Special Programs Heading link

A range of creative projects in collaboration with affiliated student organizations, faculty/staff, university offices and community partners. Some examples of these events include our Fall Black Student Organization Fair, and our annual Black Student Leadership Symposium in the Spring.
